Monterey County Clean Lodging Commitment
Health & Safety Is Our Top Priority
The endless views, fresh ocean air and wide-open spaces of Monterey are
here to stay. But some things have changed recently... Our lodging properties
have made new adjustments to ensure you have a comfortable and healthy
stay while visiting Monterey County.
For added preventive measures, hotel and lodging properties in Monterey
County are following the highest industry standards provided by the
California Hotel and Lodging Association Clean and Safe Certified Program. Together, we are committed to the health and wellbeing of our visitors,
community and employees.

the facility’s sustainability efforts impacting indoor air quality,
energy, water usage, and more. It is one of only a few conference and
convention facilities in North America to boast this highly coveted certification,
and solidifies Monterey County’s reputation as a sustainable meeting
destination.

The Portola Hotel & Spa boasts over 20,000 square feet of LEED Certified
meeting and event space, and the safety and wellbeing of our guests, employees,
and community are of the utmost importance to us. As health experts and
government authorities continue to revise health, safety, and service
standards, we continue to closely monitor all industry and government
guidance regarding COVID-19, including information supplied by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO),
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA), California Department
of Public Health (CDPH) and our local Monterey County Department of Public Health.
Portola has the following features that enhance the
SAFETY, COMFORT & WELLBEING of our guests:
- All our guest rooms and suites have been fully renovated and refurbished
in 2020. All guest rooms are separately air-conditioned, and each has
an operating outside door or window to allow fresh air
- Atrium two level lobby in a fresh air garden allowing ample space for seating
and socialization while complying with social distancing guidelines
- Large guest hallways reduce potential contacts with other guests or our
associates
To enhance safety and reduce the risk for our guests and employees, we
have implemented the following sanitation and safety protocols based on
the most current information available for the hospitality industry:
- Sanitizing shared equipment and high touch areas (especially in public
spaces) on a regular schedule throughout the day. Hand sanitizer stations
are available in key areas throughout the hotel, including the hotel main
entrances, front desk, and elevator landings
- Signage and social distancing guidelines are in place throughout the hotel
public spaces, including restrooms and elevators. All employees have been
trained to practice social distancing and will remain six feet away from
other employees and guests at all times
- Employees are required to wear facemasks and appropriate personal protective
equipment at all times
- Each guest room is cleaned with approved disinfectants with special attention
paid to all high-touch surfaces (door handles, light switches, TV remote, etc.)
Monterey Marriott
All Marriott staff will be wearing masks, and over 90% of the staff are
vaccinated.
The Marriott upgraded to MRV 11 rated filters at the beginning of COVID
and our system vents to the outside and brings in fresh air. In keeping
with Marriott's Commitment to Clean, we have made several enhancements
to our cleaning practices throughout our property and in guest rooms.
- Glassware and collateral materials in guestrooms have been removed as an
added safety measure.
- Enhanced Public Space Cleaning: We have increased the frequency of cleaning
and disinfection and added sanitizing stations, particularly in areas
with high traffic including restrooms and elevators.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Staff members will wear PPE (e.g.,
face coverings, gloves, etc.) based on the activities they are performing
and based on direction by the local authorities. Guests are required to
wear personal face coverings in all public spaces.
- Electrostatic Spraying: We're utilizing enhanced technologies, including
electrostatic sprayers with hospital-grade disinfectants, to support our
already rigorous cleanliness protocols.
- Every guest room is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to your arrival.
